Koraigad Fort trek near Lonavala is a perfect place for a one-day getaway. It is a beautiful hill fort which was built-in by the prominent Maratha ruler, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Located around 20 km away from Lonavala, the fort houses a couple of refreshing and clean ponds that offer a picturesque view along with cool breeze and fog during monsoons. With a relaxing sight of the floating clouds, Koraigad Fort monsoon trek is one of the best idyllic destinations to escape from the hustle-bustle of city life. Situated at an elevation of about 3000 feet from the sea level, Koraigad fort was named after goddess Koraidevi. Koraidevi Temple has been recently renovated and has a 3 feet high Deepmala. While visiting the fort, one can see two other temples dedicated to Lords Vishnu and Shiva. There are two lakes on the top of the fort and several ruins of older structures that still exist within the fort. Monsoon trek to Koraigad is a great trek for beginners as it is a short and an easy 6 km trek, which leaves ample time for fun activities along the way. Near the fort, there is a flight of about 500 steps set out to reach the fort from and to Pethshahpur village. One thing that trekkers cannot afford to miss out on this journey is an exquisite view of the Aamby Valley. In addition, there is a pit-stop on the way that offers the striking view of the Aamby Valley and its two artificial lakes. As it is a short trek, one can enjoy a refreshing dip in the pond. While passing through the lush green forest, trekkers can find several colourful butterflies and beautiful birds whose melodious voices are so deep that the entire valley seems like echoing with the songs. The trail features stone-cut steps leading up to the Koraigad Fort, which has a large, flat top, with the ramparts completely intact. The fort houses sturdy walls and massive gates and some ancient cannons are still lying in the fort. After discovering about the historical and religious significance of the forts and temples, one can take several pictures with their friends and family members, and also play games to have a fun time. Notably, the place is pretty good for camping as well due to plenty of open space in and around the fort. However, people usually avoid night stay at the top and come back after spending a few hours around Koraigad Fort.
