If Colombo is the commercial hub, then Kandy is the passage to ancient kingdom. It houses the Temple of Tooth Relic - one of the holiest Buddhist temples worshipped by the Buddhists. The city of hills, the city is home to the country’s ancient institutions. Sinhalese architecture - a unique form of Sri Lankan architecture came to rise during the reign of the Kandyans. Temple of Lankatilaka is the best example of the Sinhalese architecture preserved in the city. The city is all about the amalgamation of the three main factors : temples, hills and gardens. Stroll through the Peradeniya Botanical Garden - a renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site gaining over 1.5 millions of visitors per year. Visit to Kandy will be more than exciting during the end of July for the city celebrates its classic royal festival - Esala Perashera - commonly known as the Festival of Tooth, where the brightly decorated caskets are worn by the tuskers, also involves drummers and traditional dancers to make the streets much more than lit. Kandyans are just immovable without their tea. The lush hills of the city is home to the country’s tea symbol - the Ceylon tea.
