The union territory of Puducherry (formerly Pondicherry; generally known as ‘Pondy’) was under French rule until 1954. Some people here still speak French (and English with French accents). Hotels, restaurants and ‘lifestyle’ shops sell a seductive vision of the French-subcontinental aesthetic, enhanced by Gallic creative types and Indian artists and designers. The internationally famous Sri Aurobindo Ashram and its offshoot just north of town, Auroville, draw large numbers of spiritually minded visitors.
If u are looking for a nice and quiet place to visit then Pichavaram is a great place. Include this place with ur pondicherry trip as there is only the boat ride that's attracts u.. 1 hr drive from Pondi. prefer to take the row boat as this goes nearer to the mangrove forest trees and can have a closer look.
Driver and guide was good. the driver took us to the places we didn't know existed. It was an amazing experience.
perfect way to discover pondy. We really enjoyed this tour. The guide was very knowledgeable about pondicherry's history.highly recommend this tour for your first morning in the town
