Commonly known as the gateway to Ooty – Coimbatore is a rapidly growing metropolitan city. Known as Kovai amongst the locals, the city is surrounded by the Western Ghats. The city got boomed in the textile industry in the 19th century whilst it was a decay of cotton industry in Mumbai. Largest city for e- commerce in south India? It’s Coimbatore. It’s all lit during the festival mariamman – the Hindu Goddess, when a specially decorated chariot is created for the magnificent Goddess. Where the industrialisation is at its peak, it’s also where the World Classical Tamil Conference 2010 was. It’s also the first south Indian city where the concept of Tent Cinema (where tent is erected on an open land) was introduced. Known as the Manchester of India due to the developed textile industry, the city is also considered as India’s Motorsports hub featuring India’s first Formula One driver.
