Jaipur’s Spectacular Tourist Places
Amer fort, built with red sandstone and marble, is a attractive, opulent palace laid out on four levels, each with a courtyard. The fort is also known for its artistic style. With its large ramparts and series of gates and cobbled paths, the fort overlooks Maota Lake. The fort stands as a grand example of ancient architecture and is also known for its blend of Mughal and Rajput style of architecture. The fort was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2013, as part of a group of six hill forts in Rajasthan. Here you can visit the Sheesh Mahal, where the walls are covered with intricate mirror work, using glass imported from Belgium. Amber Fort also has an open-air passage that connects it to Jaigarh Fort. Tourists can walk along it from Ganesh Pol, or be transported by a golf cart.

Jaigarh Fort is situated on the promontory called the Cheel ka Teela (Hill of Eagles) of the Aravalli range; it overlooks the Amer Fort and the Maota Lake. Jaigarh Fort was built by Raja Jai Singh II in 1726 to protect the Amer Fort. The Spectacular Jaigarh Fort was superbly designed and represents a lot about the Indian culture. The Fort was also called the “Fort of Victory” in ancient India. The fort features a cannon named “Jaivana”, which was manufactured in the fort precincts and was then the world’s largest cannon on wheels. The ancient monument was constructed between the 15th and 18th century. The architectural features are of Indo-Persian style with cyclopean walls built with dressed stone and plastered with lime mortar.

The Nahargarh fort was originally named Sudarshangarh but it became known as Nahargarh, which means ‘abode of tigers’. Along with Amer Fort and Jaigarh Fort, Nahargarh once formed a strong defense ring for the city. The fort is being followed by Indo-European architecture. To the left of the entrance gate ‘Tadigate’, a temple was built and there is another one within the fort, which was dedicated to the prince Nahar Singh Bhomia. One more attraction from this Jaipurian community is the ‘Madhavendra Bhawan’, which was built by Sawai Madho Singh. The fort now also is home to the Jaipur wax museum and glass palace. The significance of the Sheesh Mahal is that the entire room is made from hand-cut glass. Sheesh Mahal in other parts of Rajasthan does not have a glass floor. This is what makes this a unique place to visit.

Hawa Mahal or the ‘Palace Of The Winds’ is located in the heart of the beautiful Pink City of Rajasthan. It is constructed of red and pink sandstone. The palace sits on the edge of the City Palace Jaipur, and extends to the zenana, or women’s chambers. Its unique five-story exterior is akin to the honeycomb of a beehive with its 953 small windows called jharokhas decorated with intricate latticework. Its cultural and architectural heritage is a true reflection of a fusion of Hindu-Rajput architecture and Islamic-Mughal architectures. It is among the most famous tourist attractions and a prominent landmark of the city.

Possibly the most serene sight amidst the chaos of Jaipur is the beautiful Jal Mahal. The palace is in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake in Jaipur city. The Mahal is a testament to the bond that was formed between the Rajput’s and Mughal Empire. The architecture of the palace has a resemblance to both types of construction. The building has a picturesque view of the lake itself but owing to its seclusion from land is equally the focus of a viewpoint from the Man Sagar Dam. The palace, built in red sandstone, is a five storied building, of which four floors remain underwater when the lake is full and the top floor is exposed. The halls and chambers of the palace have sand-colored stone walls that are in stark contrast with the blues of waters.

The Jantar Mantar, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has a collection of nineteen architectural astronomical instruments built by the Rajput king Sawai Jai Singh II , each serving an accurate purpose. The instruments, made of stone allow the observation of astronomical positions with the naked eye. The observatory is an example of the Ptolemaic positional astronomy which was shared by many civilizations. The most significant among the instruments is the Samrat Yantra which is the largest sundial in the country. The monument features instruments operating in each of the three main classical celestial coordinate systems: the horizon-zenith local system, the equatorial system and the ecliptic system. The Kapala Yantraprakara is one that works in two systems and allows transformation of the coordinates directly from one system to the other.
